About DogPoisonCheck

Published-source research, for the 11pm panic moment.

DogPoisonCheck is an educational toxicology reference for dog owners, researched from published sources. Our content is educational and is not a substitute for veterinary advice.

    Our mission

When your dog eats something they shouldn't, the first 90 seconds matter. You need to organize what happened and contact a veterinarian when an exposure may be dangerous — and you need to know it for your dog, not a generic 50-pound Labrador in a blog post written for SEO.

DogPoisonCheck helps owners organize exposure details and read published toxicology information. It cannot replace a veterinarian's assessment, diagnosis or treatment. Never induce vomiting without veterinary instructions.

    Our research approach

We summarize published evidence, distinguish uncertain dose data and link sources. No veterinary authorship, review or endorsement is claimed.

    Editorial & Sourcing Policy

    How we source information

Every substance entry cross-references the same authoritative toxicology resources practicing veterinarians use:

    • ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center reference materials
    • Pet Poison Helpline published toxicology data
    • Merck Veterinary Manual (toxicology chapters)
    • Peer-reviewed veterinary literature (JAVMA, JVECC)

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or certified by the ASPCA, Pet Poison Helpline, AVMA, or any government agency. We reference their published data the same way any clinician or textbook would.

    Editorial & review process

    Drafted from primary sources

Every substance page starts from primary toxicology data — not other websites. We pull mg/kg thresholds and clinical signs from the references above.

    Source checks and dated reviews

Editorial checks compare wording, units and uncertainty with published references. Pages show a veterinary review date only after that review has occurred.

    Updated when the science changes

When new toxicology data is published — or when ASPCA/PPH update their reference values — we update the affected entries and note the review date.

We are an educational tool, not a veterinary practice. We do not diagnose, prescribe, or treat, and using DogPoisonCheck does not establish a veterinarian-client-patient relationship. When in doubt, always call your vet. Read our editorial policy, medical disclaimer, terms, and privacy policy.
